Abel plays.
These days, that includes playing Mario Kart with his kids, Lucas and Emmi; playing guitar in his latest band, Signa, a Spanish rock-n-roll outfit; and playing around with PHP and CSS as he builds sophisticated Drupal websites for our clients.
But before he joined Mighty Citizen, Abel’s career history was just as playful.
Born and raised in Orange County, California, Abel long planned to become a music studio engineer. But when it became clear that the business wasn’t as fulfilling as he’d imagined, he took a sharp turn into civil service as a mailman. For years, Abel dodged crazy Dalmations to serve the fine (and…interesting) people of Huntington Beach.
Eventually, though, his technical side took over. So he earned his college degree in Computer Information Systems, which led to website development gigs for big agencies, start-ups, and as freelance “dev-for-hire.” When he saw the opening at Mighty Citizen, he was especially attracted to how long most people work here. “You don’t see that in development work often,” he explains. “If you keep your employees for five, ten years, even longer? That’s a sign of a great place to work.”
When he’s not shredding on the guitar or coaching his son’s Little League team, Abel spends his time with his wife, Heidy, at their home in Orange, California.
