Position

Senior Designer

Mighty Citizen is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes everyone to our team. We strongly encourage people of color, LGBTQ and non-binary people, veterans, parents, and individuals with disabilities to apply. If you need reasonable accommodation at any point in the application or interview process, please let us know.

Mighty Citizen is a digitally-focused, research-based agency developing brands, web design systems, and strategic marketing campaigns for mission-driven clients. We’re looking for a well-rounded Senior Designer with 6+ years of multi-disciplinary experience working in brand and UX.

Your past work should include the development of complete brand identities and responsive web design systems — from concept to completion. Advertising and marketing collateral is a plus.

Day-to-day, you’re as comfortable advising clients as you are illustrating icons. You pitch your work with passion and know your way around a color wheel. You’re organized, strategic, and love to collaborate. You mesh well with everyone involved in design work, including project managers, copywriters, developers, strategists, and client stakeholders.

A few things to know about us:

  • Our clients are mission-driven, which means helping people is at the center of everything we do.
  • We’re big on research — audience insights and client needs inform all of our design output.
  • Accessibility is a cornerstone of our work.
  • Process is our friend.

Sound like a fit? Check out the responsibilities and requirements below and apply! (Remember to include a link to your portfolio.) If your skills and experience are a match, we’ll be in touch.

Location: Austin, TX or Remote

Base Salary: $70,000 – $75,000 dependent on experience

The impact you’ll make:

You’ll lead design strategy efforts on various client accounts, including client presentations. You’ll be responsible for the concept, design, and production of digital and print design that meets client goals, including:

  • Complete brand identity development covering logo design, color palette, typography, collateral, and standards
  • Responsive website design, including global style guides and component-based design systems
  • Print collateral (brochures, multi-page documents)
  • Integrated advertising (social, display, print)
  • Event branding and production

Expectations

Unless specifically noted, not every expectation is required to be qualified for this role. We are looking for a combination of this skill set. If you have many of these skills, but not all of them, please feel free to apply.

  • 6+ years professional agency experience in graphic design, branding, UX, or related field
  • A degree in visual communication, branding, UX, graphic design or related field, or related work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Expert knowledge of current design industry methodologies and technologies
  • A portfolio of innovative design work demonstrating mastery of typography, layout, color, imagery, and concept
  • Expert working knowledge of design software including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Sketch
  • Familiarity with human-centered design processes and user experience
  • Familiarity with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS)
  • Exposure to working with project management teams and use of productivity tools like Google Suite, chat programs, and project management systems
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to tactfully deliver and accept criticism

Desired skills

  • Exceptionally creative and passionate about design
  • Conceptually minded and a strategic thinker
  • Understanding of the intersection of art and copy to create powerful communication
  • Positive attitude, collaborative, and thoughtful
  • Punctual, self-motivated, and responsible
  • Nice to haves:
    • Previous experience with association, higher-ed, nonprofit, or government industries
    • Experience collaborating with creative vendors (printers, photographers, illustrators, editors)
    • Software experience with motion graphics and prototyping for the web (After Effects, Figma, Principle)
