Marketing Strategist

That means your strategic recommendations are always research-based and support well-defined business goals and objectives. A phenomenal communicator, you can walk clients through the supporting evidence for your recommendations without hesitation, sharing creative ideas to solve their most pressing business challenges. A great writer and storyteller with excellent time management and organizational skills, you deliver value with every insight.

We help nonprofits, associations, universities, and government agencies more deeply connect with their audiences, increase their revenue and relevance, and improve their communities.

The Marketing Strategist supports the Client Marketing team with the development of marketing campaigns for various agency clients in the association, nonprofit, higher education, and government sectors. Working closely with the Director of Client Marketing, the Marketing Strategist conducts audience and market research, designs targeted campaigns, and delivers well-thought-out strategic recommendations that meet the unique business needs of our clients.

Location: U.S. Remote or Austin, TX office
$80,000 – $90,000, dependent on experience

Previous experience working with higher education institutions (HEI) such as universities, colleges, and community colleges is highly desired.

The Impact You’ll Make:

  • Consult directly with clients to understand their marketing and communication needs.

  • Design and implement marketing strategy that aligns and supports clients’ business goals and objectives.

  • Create marketing plans, launch plans, and playbooks for various clients through an integrated approach, demonstrating a strong understanding of their mission.

  • Ensure marketing strategy is based on available research and data, aligns with target audiences, has clear KPIs, and are consistent and cohesive through all communication channels.

  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Strategist on performing audience research, competitor, and market analysis.

  • Work with the Creative team on developing marketing assets for campaigns, delivering well-defined creative briefs, and offering practical feedback during the creative concept and design process.

  • Track and measure campaign outcomes, and report on campaign results, KPIs, and ROIs to clients and internal staff.

  • Manage content calendars for clients, schedule and upload social media posts and emails, and train clients as needed.

  • Contribute to the review and improvement of existing internal systems and processes as the Marketing team grows, staying abreast of industry changes and trends and helping the team forecast possible obstacles.

  • Represent the agency as a subject matter expert (SME) at conferences and events as needed.

  • Other tasks as necessary to make you and the company more successful.


Unless specifically noted, not every expectation is required to be qualified for this role. We are looking for a combination of this skill set. If you have many of these skills but not all of them, please feel free to apply.

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in marketing. Agency experience is preferred but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Business, Marketing or related field; or commensurate experience in areas referenced above.

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and presentation skills, including tactfully delivering and accepting honest criticism.

  • Significant knowledge of current industry standards, including those that apply to content marketing and earned social strategy.

  • Significant experience creating and presenting marketing deliverables, including marketing plans, launch plans, playbooks, content calendars, campaign updates, etc.

  • Significant experience gathering and using marketing data, such as keyword research, industry reports, and competitive analysis.

  • Experience using social listening software (i.e. Meltwater, Talkwalker, or other) and social media scheduling tools like Sprout Social, Loomly, or other.

  • Experience with email marketing and one or more popular marketing automation platforms, such as Hubspot, Eloqua, Pardot, Marketo, or others, is required.

  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively with a focus on the details and minimal supervision.

  • Experience with print or traditional media outlets.

Our Hiring Process:

We want our hiring process to be fair, equitable, and positive for all candidates. And we want to have a great hire at the end of it! Typically, it takes a final candidate 4-8 weeks to complete our hiring process. In today’s market, we know that is slower than most companies, but it’s important to us that we all come out better for it in the end. Here’s a look at the expected timing of our hiring process:

  • 2-4 weeks: Collect resumes

  • 1 week: Initial phone interviews (30 minutes) with 5-10 candidates

  • 1-2 weeks: Virtual interview (60 minutes) with 3-5 candidates

  • 1-2 weeks: Third, and likely final, virtual interview (60 minutes) with 2-3 candidates

  • 1 week: Check references, official offer, and negotiation
