Client Marketing Director

We’re looking for an industry veteran. A multi-disciplinary communicator ready to own and shape the future of our clients’ marketing efforts. Both parts marketer and manager, your project experience will have spanned industries and organizations of every size, bringing improved quality, effectiveness, and efficiency to your work and workplace.

As a master of the marketing mix, you bring a command of best practices, research, segmentation, and data analysis. You’re at home pitching strategy in the boardroom, monitoring omnichannel performance, brainstorming creative, and managing a team of resources. When the going gets tough, you pivot with ease, staying focused on KPIs, OKRs, and ROI. Through it all, you’re a collaborator, able to build and maintain consensus among clients and colleagues.

This staff member is expected to work 40 hours per week, generally 8:00am to 5:00pm or as required to perform assigned duties.

Job Responsibilities

This director-level position will be responsible for:

  • Working directly with clients to understand and document their audiences, users, organizational objectives, and marketing challenges. In collaboration with other departments, conducting audience and user research when needed.
  • Developing strategic marketing initiatives to meet client needs, including brand strategy, marketing plans, campaigns, programs, product launches, content calendars, and other marketing initiatives where needed.
  • Developing and managing marketing budgets.
  • Reporting on the status of marketing goals, analytics, and metrics including marketing KPIs, OKRs, and ROI. Recommending any necessary shifts in direction, budget, spend, or messaging.
  • Collaborating with client teams and other Mighty Citizen departments to execute marketing initiatives and business objectives.
  • Working with the Project Management Office and other departments to plan and manage resources.
  • Leading the growth of the department as it aligns with company strategy and growth.
  • Managing the Client Marketing Department. This position will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, retaining, growing, coaching, mentoring, and supporting talent in the Client Marketing Department.
  • Working with Mighty Citizen’s director team to direct business strategy, including team management, project challenges, and oversight of business goals.
  • Working with the business development team to secure new client assignments including budgeting, scoping, proposal writing, and advising on opportunities as requested.
  • Contributing significantly to company content including articles, resources, publications, and presentations.
  • Other tasks as necessary to make you and the company more successful.


  • 12+ years of professional experience creating exceptional marketing initiatives.
  • 5+ years of professional experience working directly with clients in an agency setting.
  • 3+ years leading an agency department or supervising other individuals.
  • Expert presenter, able to frame strategy and rationale to executive stakeholders.
  • Experience working with mission-driven clients in the government, education, nonprofit, and/or association industries.
  • Experience conducting market research and developing marketing strategy.
  • Experience managing email lifecycle campaigns.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring integrated marketing initiatives (digital, traditional, and experiential).
  • Expert understanding of best practices around paid, earned, shared, and owned media.
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams, including working with strategists, designers, developers, writers, videographers, producers, etc.
  • Experience tracking and reporting campaign performance using marketing and marketing automation tools like HubSpot, Adobe Experience Manager, Salesforce, etc.
  • Experience contributing to agency operations including budgeting, resource allocation, and sales support.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to tactfully deliver and accept honest criticism.
  • A bachelor’s degree (preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business) or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with common productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, email programs, and project management systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of current industry standards including those that apply to marketing, usability, information architecture, visual design, online marketing, and content strategy for desktop and mobile environments.
  • The ability to work independently or with a collaborative team, without supervision.

  • Expert communication skills and the ability to speak effectively to diverse groups of people, including employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Willing to take responsibility and share ideas for improvement of agency work.
  • The ability to manage time and complete tasks quickly and accurately, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to occasionally work flexible hours to meet client needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and set up trade show displays with assistance. This is not a requirement to fulfill this position.
  • The Austin, Texas office is a two-story building with no elevator. Job duties can be performed from the first floor without a need to access the second floor.
  • Alternatively, this may be a “work from home” position if the winning applicant is located outside of the Austin, TX metropolitan area.
